This painting was executed by Luce in a smooth brush stroke. The loosely-scale small-format image is especially appealing and stylistically closely related to the early period of his work.
The subject is comparable to Nr. 689 in Cat.raisonné, Vol. 3 by Madame Bazetoux, Avril graphique éditions, Paris, 2005
Maximilien Luce is one of the most famous painters of the French Post-Impressionism.
Along with Lucien Pissarro, the son of the painter Camille Pissarro, he founded the artists' group Groupe de Lagny to which Henri Lebasque sonn counted.
Luce is close friends with painters such as Georges Seurat, Theo van Rysselberghe and Louis Valtat.
Together with Seurat and Signac, the founders of the Neo-Impressionist school, Luce began a movement that is based on the scientific study of light and the analysis of the prismatic effect of colors.
For several years, Maximilian Luce worked strictly by the ideas of pointillism, though he later changed his technique in favor of a less formal painting style.
Landscapes, urban scenes and depictions of working people define the contents of Maximilian Luce.
